“Bui Bolg transforms and re-images spaces, through spectacular installations, large scale community events and street art performances which turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.”
Bui Bolg Outdoor Arts is a team of skilled visual artists and engineers, performers and designers led by Artistic Director Colm Lowney. We produce work that incorporates many different creative art forms – from large scale sculptural work to pageantry and animatronics. We aim to engage the public knowingly and unknowingly in a discourse with the arts.
Our work presents an exaggerated interpretation of reality. It transforms and re-imagines the space around us. From concept and design right through to street performance, Bui Bolg incorporate technology and interactivity to engage the public. Bui Bolg performances are flexible, relevant, transformational, and bring people together: by awakening their imagination, and creating new experience and new memories.
Bui Bolg Outdoor Arts was established in Wexford in 1994 by a group of young, enthusiastic art graduates aiming to bring art out on to the streets and make it accessible for all.
Our first ever event was the St. Patrick’s Parade on Wexford’s quay front in 1994. Since then, Bui Bolg has gone on to tour the festival circuit appearing at events as diverse as the Earagail Arts Festival in Donegal to The Dublin Tall Ships Races 2012 to the annual National St. Patrick’s Festival Parade in Dublin.
In recent years Bui Bolg has gone beyond Ireland and we have been hosted by places as far flung as The International Tourism & Culture Festival in Beijing to the Mood Indigo Culture Festival in Bombay, as well to the Menton Lemon Festival in France.
Bui Bolg operates on social enterprise principals.
